New Faculty Foundations: Building for Success

The New Faculty Foundations Program (NFF) is designed to provide new OHSU School of Medicine faculty with a longitudinal orientation program, that meets three core objectives:
- To develop and sustain a supportive community among all SoM faculty, across missions and departments.
- To foster and enhance SoM faculty engagement, career satisfaction and retention.
- To provide faculty with precision, or “just in time” resources to better define their faculty roles and responsibilities and to emphasize and support their academic advancement and professional development.
New Faculty Foundations will connect faculty to the school and institution, afford networking opportunities across departments and missions, and provide access to institutional resources.
Program structure
For the 2025-26 academic year, New Faculty Foundations workshops will take place from 7:30 – 9 a.m. on the second Monday of the month (with the exception of October - see full schedule below).
Workshops will include community building activities, didactic presentations, group breakout sessions, and more. All sessions are designed to complement existing human resources, department and division orientation programs.
This series of workshops is intended for OHSU School of Medicine Faculty who have been recently appointed at OHSU.
The School of Medicine Office of Faculty Development will work with the Office of Faculty Affairs, departmental chairs and administrators, and human resources to obtain a list of all new faculty.
Target faculty will receive invitations to attend all six workshops, and should work with their individual departments/divisions to block off time to attend.
If you are a new faculty and did not receive a calendar invitation, or are a recent hire who is interested in attending, please contact facdev@ohsu.edu.
All workshops are currently scheduled to be in-person. The dates listed below are accurate for the 2025-26 program year, but the topics for a given date are subject to change.

Program history
New Faculty Foundations grew out of a project that was designed by Associate Dean for Faculty Development Andrea Cedfeldt, during her participation in the 2023-24 cohort of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program.
It was developed with input from departmental chairs, the OHSU chair executive committee, the School of Medicine Faculty Advancement and Development Committee and other key stakeholders in professional development across OHSU.
