Meet Our Recent Fellows

Dr. Rose Kang grew up in Taiwan and moved to California at the age of 12. After living in Ohio for 4 years for med school at Case Western, she was drawn to Virginia's warm weather and luscious greenery, where she completed 3 years of internal medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Surrounded by some of the most genuine, kind, and caring coworkers, she stayed on for an additional chief residency year at VCU. Her goal as a budding geriatrician is to explore the holistic approach of caring for aging individuals with empathy and cultural sensitivity through community empowerment to improve health equity for this unique population. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Kang enjoys hiking with her two sweet but crazy pit bulls (Nana and Sheton), birdwatching with the Audubon society, doing outdoor yoga with friends, and exploring zoos and animal attractions all over the country (she has a blog called "Tortoise Mom Reviews Zoos"!).

Dr. Sherry Liang grew up in Portland and was lucky to be raised by grandparents who modeled compassion, grit and gratitude. After medical school at OHSU, she moved to New Orleans to complete dual training in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. During that time, Dr. Liang discovered a deep joy in caring for older adults, which led her back to OHSU to pursue a combined fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Psychiatry. When she is not at work, you can usually find her out on a walk, lost in a book, or searching for her next favorite food spot!

Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Nathan Stumpf began his professional journey in the hospitality and gaming entertainment industries, contributing to six published games. This diverse background sparked his interest in human behavior and teamwork, which led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology with a concentration in cognitive science at UCLA. He earned his medical degree from Case Western, followed by an internal medicine residency at Providence Portland Medical Center. His passion lies in partnering with older adults through personalized, team-based care to help them achieve their goals. Dr. Stumpf is excited to continue this work as a fellow, where he can contribute to the program’s commitment to comprehensive and compassionate geriatric care. Outside of medicine, he enjoys exploring the PNW wilderness and unwinding at home with an audiobook while cooking or making art.
