Join the REACH Study to Find Cancer Early

An older couple and two young adults enjoy a moment together in the woods.

You can help if you are a Medicare patient who is 50 or older

Too often, cancer isn’t found until it’s advanced and harder to treat. Taking action to find cancer early could ease worries and help you feel more in control of your health.

What is the REACH study?

The national REACH Study aims to see if a simple blood test can find cancer early.

The test was developed by GRAIL Inc., a health care company dedicated to detecting cancer early.  Its test, called the Galleri or multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test, can detect DNA “signals” from more than 50 cancers.

REACH Study sites include the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR) Center at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. The study’s lead researcher at OHSU is Dr. Nima Nabavizadeh, associate professor of radiation medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved use of the test in this research setting.

This test is not intended to replace cancer screening tests your doctor may recommend, such as a colonoscopy or mammogram.

Who can join the study?

You can join the REACH Study/Galleri-Medicare study if you:

  • Are a patient at OHSU
  • Are insured by Medicare or Medicare Advantage
  • Are age 50 or older
  • Have never been diagnosed with cancer or have been cancer- and treatment-free at least three years

You are not eligible if you have had the Galleri test before.
