Biography
Dr. William Hoffman is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at OHSU and a Staff Physician at the VA Portland Health Care System. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at The Ohio State University and then completed a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After graduate school, he attended medical school at UW Madison and received his M.D. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at OHSU and then joined the staff at OHSU and the Portland VA . His research interests combine his training in physical chemistry and biological psychiatry. He uses neuroimaging techniques to investigate causes and treatments of mental illness, addictive disorders and CNS sequelae of infections. Current research focuses on the effects of methamphetamine and alcohol on brain function and the mechanism of neurocognitive deficits post COVID infection.
